In the downhill, speed control is the deciding factor.

Races on mountain bike downhill courses are timed events held entirely on a downward sloping trail and demand techniques for controlling the bike at high speeds.

Starting Point Race Method Practice Time
The race starts near the top of a mountain or steep hill. The starting position for the final race is determined by preliminary times. Each rider starts by themselves spaced out by a certain time interval from the others and tries to get down the hill with the fastest time to win. Before the actual race, practice time must be set aside for walking the course and stopping midway through.
Race Development
Since this is a speed-based competition on a downhill course, technical skills for controlling a mountain bike are required.
