Japan's trailblazing stage race.
This is one of Japan's best stage races ranking right up there with the Tour of Japan. It is held in the fall at spectacular locations throughout Hokkaido, Japan. Before the Tour of Japan received official sanction from the U.C.I, the Tour de Hokkaido was the trailblazing stage race in Japan in terms of scale as well. Japanese stage races include such competitions as the Tour de Chubu, Tour de Shikoku, and Mikasanomiya Cup Tour de Tohoku, but the largest one of all that uses public roads between cities is the Tour de Hokkaido. National teams from Japan and overseas compete in this race which is very successful year after year.
Over All Group Time Award Individual Award Time Bonus
This is the highest honor of the competition determined by the total time of a team's top three riders. For individual competitors, there are awards for time, points, sprints, and mountain riding. This is a 5, 10, or 15 second bonus awarded to the first through third place riders in each stage. This time is subtracted from their overall time at race finish.
