This is the most important long triathlon in Japan.
This popular race held on Miyakojima, Okinawa opens the Japanese season every year in April. Over 1,000 athletes from around the world participate every year in this fierce battle that unfolds between top names from overseas and the best competitors from Japan.
Drafting Swimming Sunglasses
Competitors are not allowed to gain a competitive advantage by riding behind others (drafting) to cut down on wind resistance. In addition, riding in groups or side by side is prohibited. Any style of swimming is allowed. Competitors swim the shortest distance of the outside of the prescribed course. Sunglasses are allowed, but they must be removed before the all-around finish so that each competitor can be visually identified.
Keeping Left Wet Suit Aid Station
Competitors must strictly observe the established traffic rules and follow the instructions presented by traffic signs, pylons, event staff, and police. Basically, the use of a wet suit is recommended, and when low temperatures are expected, its use is mandatory. However, when the water temperature is 21°C or above and the water surface is stable, the wearing of a wet suit is prohibited. Competitors must slow down here when receiving food and other supplies.
Running
To prevent overexertion and maintain prime condition, slow running and walking are permitted. However, competitors that intentionally cross the finish line together are disqualified.
