Individual road races are competitions stretching over 170 km.
Individual road races are competitions where individual riders measure each others abilities as their survival strategies unfold.
Race Development Participants Team Composition
Two hundred racers start simultaneously, with the most capable riders in the lead pack. Racers position themselves behind other riders or groups to cut down on wind resistance, conserving their strength as they wait for a chance to make a move or sprint ahead. These are the kinds of exciting strategies that unfold during the race. The race is limited to 200 participants. There must be at least four and no more than ten regular members in a team. In addition, there can be half as many substitutes registered as there are regular members. These substitutes can replace regular members during the race.
Circuit Shared Repair Vehicle Maximum Length
When held on a circuit, a course length of 10 km is ideal. A vehicle is provided that can be used by any racer to make repairs on their bicycle during the competition. The maximum length of a road racing course is limited to 170 km.
Racer's Number Start Finish
A racer's number is placed on their road racing bicycle frame and on the right and left side of their lower back. The 200 racers line right up to the starting line, with the highest ranked riders (according to their number) at the front, and then start all at the same time when the starting gun goes off. The race is over when the front-most portion of the lead rider's tire touches the front-most portion of the finish line. Racers are even allowed to finish by carrying or pushing their bicycles.
