The technique of changing place has an
impact on the chances of victory or defeat.
This is a long distance race of 50 km during which some twenty 2-rider teams compete in point races (intermediate sprints) with riders alternately becoming the active team member by exchanging places relay fashion.
Start Race Development Exchange of Places
The teammate riding until the first exchange begins the race using standing start. The twenty riders alternate with their teammates to become the active rider to compete for points on the inside portion of the track. When a rider tires out, he/she can signal their teammate circling on the upper portion of the track to come down and exchange positions by touching the back.
Madison Sling Intermediate Sprint Final Sprint
This is a technique performed when exchanging places by having the lead rider grab the hand of his/her partner and hurling them forward for a boost of speed.

Intermediate sprints for points unfold every 2 km at the finish line.

First: 5 points
Second: 3 points
Third: 2 points
Fourth: 1 points

At the race finish, riders compete for double points in a final sprint.

First: 10 points

Second: 6 points

Third: 4 points

Fourth: 2 points

Elimination Ranking Resting Teammate
Teams that fall three laps behind the pack must immediately leave the track.

1. Determined by the number of laps completed.

2. Determined by points accumulated during sprints if teams have equal numbers of point.

3. Determined by number of sprints won if teams have same number of points and completed laps.

4. Determined by the number of times placing second, if no differences between the teams can be determined from the above three conditions.

5. Lastly, determined by the results of the final sprint.

Team members who exchange position to temporarily leave the race slowly circle the upper portion of the track to rest their bodies.
Team Numbers
Each teammate wears the same number but with a different color.
