Riders compete for points awarded for intermediate sprints
every 2 km and a final sprint at the finish.
This is a long distance competition in which 20 to 30 riders ride the banks simultaneously, with the final results being determined according to points given for the number of complete laps and the intermediate and final sprints.The first through fourth riders passing established points every 2 km on a 30 km stretch for men and 20 km stretch for women are awarded points, and the rider with the most total points at race end wins.
Before Race Start Flying Start Race Development
Half of the competitors line up along the railing while the other half line up single file in the sprinter's lane. The starting gun goes off when the rider wearing number 1 reaches the starting line during the lap(s) before race begins. There are spectacular displays of tactics for acquiring prime position to get points, and there are also riders who wait for a chance to pass other competitors.
Passing Ranking Final Sprint
Even competitors with 0 points who did not place first through fourth in the intermediate sprints can gain points if they break off the front, accumulating points until reabsorbed or they lap the field.

1. Determined by number of laps completed.

2. Determined by points accumulated during sprints if riders have equal numbers of point.

3. Determined by number of sprints won if riders have same number of points and completed laps.

4. Determined by the number of times placing second, if no differences between the riders can be determined from the above three conditions.

5. Lastly, determined by the results of the final sprint.

At the race finish, riders compete for double points in a final sprint.

First: 10 points

Second: 6 points

Third: 4 points

Fourth: 2 points

Elimination Intermediate Sprints
Competitors who fall two laps behind must immediately leave the track.

Intermediate sprints for points unfold every 2 km at the finish line.

First: 5 points
Second: 3 points
Third: 2 points
Fourth: 1 points
